Job Summary
CARE International in Nigeria is seeking a General Food Assistance (GFA) Officer who will be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of food assistance interventions—including Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), in-kind distributions, and nutrition-sensitive activities—for vulnerable populations. The role ensures efficient targeting, timely and accountable distributions, high-quality data management, and strong coordination with partners and community stakeholders, in line with CARE and donor (including WFP) standards and policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Job Responsibility #1: Programme Implementation
- Oversee day-to-day implementation of General Food Assistance activities (CVA, in-kind, and nutrition-sensitive interventions).
- Ensure full compliance with CARE, WFP, and donor SOPs, policies, and guidelines.
- Monitor activity quality, timeliness, and adherence to agreed targets.
Job Responsibility #2: Capacity building
- Through direct technical assistance provision, build the capacity of program staff (Field assistance) identify staff development needs and design/suggest appropriate staff development approaches.
- Provide ongoing technical support and mentorship for the unit staff to develop professional and technical competencies.
- Provide technical feedback daily, weekly and monthly and ensuring that established program targets and objectives are being met.
Job Responsibility #3: Coordination
- Represent CARE in LCG meeting.
- Meet with partners and donor agencies during field visits.
- Promote a positive profile of the program and good understanding among other sectors, partners and communities about the GFA activities.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders – Community support groups, community leaders, to enhance multi-agency and multi-sectoral cooperation and coordination.
- Liaise with formal and informal local authorities to ensure communication and transparency of the activity.
Job Responsibility #4: Reporting
- Prepare and submit regular narrative and data reports to Area and Country Offices.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Contribute to learning and adaptive management through evidence-based reporting.
Job Responsibility #5: Staff Management
- Supervise and support project staff and community volunteers.
- Hold regular planning and review meetings with the project team.
- Address performance issues and provide constructive feedback.
Job Responsibility #6: Commodity management
- Ensure proper warehousing, handling, and standard-compliant distribution of food commodities.
- Monitor stock movement and distribution processes in line with agreed procedures
Resource Mobilization
- Contribute to CARE’s resource mobilization efforts.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Required
- A bachelors degree or Higher National Diploma in a relevant field.
- Minimum 3 years significant proven experience in food security and nutrition programing, monitoring or similar humanitarian roles or programming.
- Understanding of program design, implementation, GFA and commodity management
- Fluency in English and local language is often required.
