Job Summary

CARE is seeking a Communication Assistant to support the successful implementation of the Resilience and Social Cohesion (Peace) project in Northeast Nigeria is a joint initiative implemented by implemented the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and United Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with funding from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the German Government. The project aims to restore basic services, rebuild livelihoods and infrastructure, and enhance social cohesion by bridging humanitarian, development, and peace interventions to foster a transformational process. The Communications Assistant is to support the project with all internal and external communications including email, print, social media, and online communication. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to support our project goals, amplify our impact, and ensure our work reaches a wide and relevant audience.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Job Responsibility #1: Communications Strategy Implementation

  • Execute, implement, and monitor communications strategy and ensuring that they align with the Project objectives and guidelines.
  • Support in the development of external communications including, but not limited to, success stories, reports, and other materials that communicate project’s lessons. 
  • Ensure consistent and accurate messaging across all communication channels.
  • Support with Project  narrative reporting by coordinating with PM to ensure that narrative periodic reports and all relevant related documents are ready to be submitted 
  • Ensure products from project implementation are properly labeled and comply to donor branding and marking standards.
  • Support both internal and external facing events for learning, such as webinars and other learning events.

Job Responsibility #2: Content Creation and Management 

  • Produce high-quality, engaging content that highlights the project's achievements, impact stories, and key messages.
  • Support with the creation of content for various platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, and reports.
  • Oversee the design and production of communication materials such as brochures, infographics, videos, and presentations as per the donor communications and branding guidelines.
  • Support with managing and updating the project’s online presence, ensuring timely and relevant content.

Job Responsibility #3: Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and implement advocacy campaigns to influence key stakeholders, policymakers to ensure that CARE Nigeria has maximum impact in promoting women and girl’s rights.
  • Identify and engage with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, community leaders, and project participants.
  • Represent the project at meetings, conferences, and other events to promote its goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the project is informed on and participates in relevant activities by other stakeholders.

Job Responsibility #4: Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with local media houses.
  • With the supervision and approval from the Communications lead, prepare and disseminate press releases, media kits, and other materials to secure coverage of the project’s activities and achievements.
  • With the supervision and approval from the Communications lead Coordinate and facilitate media visits, interviews, and press conferences.

Job Responsibility #5: Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Track and analyse the impact of communication and advocacy efforts, using metrics and feedback to refine strategies.
  • Prepare regular reports on communication activities and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support with the documentation and dissemination of key learning and findings from project using various communications tools in order to have a wider reach.
  • Ensure all communications follow Project and CARE branding and visibility guidelines.

  • Contribute to CARE’s resource mobilization efforts.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications and advocacy, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms, content management systems, and digital marketing tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Hausa (written and spoken).

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working on donor funded projects 
  • Knowledge of local languages and context.
  • Experience in graphic design, photo & video production, or multimedia content creation.
